Incriminating evidence found against KKR: IRS

The Indian Premier League continued to be embroiled in controversy with the Income Tax and Indian Revenue Services raiding the Kolkata Knight Riders offices for close to nine hours yesterday. The five IRS officers and 12 IT inspectors appeared to have found what they were looking for as they made their way out of the Eden Gardens post-midnight.

"We have found incriminating evidence and we will investigate further. We needed to have a look at certain transactions and we found whatever we were looking for," said IRS deputy director Akhilendu Jadhav.

"We are probing for irregularities in finances between KKR and the Indian Premier League and KKR and CAB. Basically, we are looking at several monetary transactions that have taken place between them," said IRS deputy director Ajay Kumar Keshri.

It is learnt that the officers are also looking into two cheques that have been issued to the CAB by KKR from a bank in Mauritius.

It is believed that yesterday's raid was to check if funds are coming in from Mauritius. The officers also seized 10 files in which they found irregularities.

The officers failed to find the re-agreement file between CAB and KKR that was inked before the IPL this year. The CAB officials have promised to hand over the file within the next 48 hours.

Apart from the KKR office within the CAB premises, their office in 19B Shakespeare Sarani and the ITC Shonar Kolkata, where the players stay during their home games, were also raided.
