Mumbai were left without the services of injured Shreyas Iyer for the Inter State T20 West Zone league matches to be played from January 7 to 11 at Rajkot. The 15-member team will be led by Aditya Tare with Dhawal Kulkarni picked as vice-captain. It includes prolific performers like Suryakumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Shardul Thakur and Jay Bista.

Dr Unmesh Khanvilkar, MCA's joint secretary, said Iyer is undergoing rehab for his injury which he sustained during the India v Sri Lanka limited overs series. "He is recovering from an injury and once he is done with his rehab, he will be available for selection," said Khanvilkar. However, the selectors persisted with Khizer Dafedar despite his poor run in the U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy for Mumbai. He managed just 168 runs in seven matches with one half-century and claimed four wickets in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the MCA's Cricket Improvement Committee yesterday took a decision to hold bowling trials across the city next week to identify pace bowlers and spinners. It also reviewed the Ranji Trophy debacle and the U-23 loss in the final to Delhi. The squad: Aditya Tare (c), Dhawal Kulkarni, Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Siddhesh Lad, Jay Bista, Bravish Shetty, Shashank Singh, Shivam Dube, Khizer Dafedar, Shams Mulani, Tushar Deshpande, Parikshit Valsangkar, Eknath Kerkar, Aakash Parkar.
