Round One of BCCI vs Modi's army of lawyers takes place in cordial atmosphere

Lalit Modi who is reportedly outside the country did not appear before the Disciplinary Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Mumbai yesterday.

Mehmood Abdi, Modi's attorney accompanied by three other lawyers represented his client before the BCCI panel, which is probing allegations of corruption, indiscipline and money-laundering in the cash-rich T20 IPL tournament.

The Disciplinary Committee comprised IPL interim Chairman Chirayu Amin, Jyotiraditrya Scindia and Arun Jaitley refused to divulge any details of what transpired during the meeting.

The meeting yesterday clearly proves a point now that the battle for supremacy is now being fought between the wealthy cricket board and Modi's army of lawyers.

The deliberations were held 'in camera' and only few details were available.

The media glare, which has been haunting Modi since his April ordeal, will now be revealed only through the BCCI website.

This decision was taken in yesterday's meet which was mutually accepted by both the parties.

"The meeting was cordial and both parties came to a conclusion of divulging details of their further meetings on the website of the cricket board. It was a mutual and a conscious decision taken," said Abdi.

Abdi also said that the BCCI's disciplinary committee is willing to consider the issue of recusal as well.

"We had a cordial meeting and the issue of recusal was put forth. The members said it would be considered," Abdi told reporters after the meeting.

It is again not clear whether Modi who skipped yesterday's appointment will attend the next meeting in New Delhi on July 27.
