Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 24 runs
Chennai Super Kings did nothing spectacular to bring an end to Mumbai Indians victory run in the Indian Premier League match at Chepauk in Chennai on Tuesday.
After putting up a modest total of 165, Chennai bowlers restricted Mumbai to 140 runs thus winning by 24 runs.
Sachin Tendulkar's hard-fought 45 could do little to save the match. Harbhajan Singh struck two successive sixes off Doug Bollinger revived Mumbai hopes.
But the dream was short-lived and even he could not do much thereafter.
Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians produced a disciplined bowling and fielding performance to restrict Chennai Indians to 165 for four.
The table toppers, who have lost just one out of their earlier eight matches, did not allow the Chennai side to replicate their brilliant batting show in their earlier match in which they made 246 for five -- the highest IPL total.
Most of Chennai batsmen got the start but failed to convert them into big scores. Mumbai bowlers got support from their fielders who did some fine work to deny runs to CSK batsmen.
Matthew Hayden top-scored with a 31-ball 35, while captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (18-ball 31) and S Badrinath 22-ball 30 not out) made useful contributions after Chennai elected to bat.
