India opener almost bagged the match for Delhi, but Kolkata win it comfortably in the end

Kolkata Knight Riders were almost struck out by Delhi Daredevils and India opener Virender Sehwag in the Indian Premier League match at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

Sehwag, who survived a close caught behind decision, scored 64 off 40 deliveries (which included six boundaries and three sixes) almost took his team to victory but fell to an incoming slow yorker from Ajit Agarkar.

Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly grabbed a lot of attention as a field. After effectively running out Gautam Gambhir, he pulled off a classic catch to get rid of Kedar Jadhav.

Batting first after winning the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 181/3 against Delhi Daredevils.

Ganguly scored a 46-ball 56 (8x4, 1x6) and added 94 for the opening wicket with Chris Gayle, who got 40 off 21 balls (5x4, 2x6).

Angelo Mathews 46 not out (28 balls, 3x6) and Manoj Tiwary 26 not out (18 balls, 1x4, 1x6) played some scintillating shots towards the end as they stitched together an unfinished fourth wicket stand of 70 to set the visitors an asking rate of 9.1 runs per over.
