Arjun, son of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, has been picked to represent Mumbai for the U-14 West Zone league matches to be played in Ahmedabad from January 20 to February 1.
This comes after Arjun’s selection in the U-14 probables list last June. The 12-year-old had slammed his first hundred in May 2012. He is a left-handed batsman and bowls left-arm medium-pace.

The batting maestro, however, was happy with the development, and wanted his son to enjoy the game more than anything else. “Like any other parent, I feel extremely happy and proud that he (Arjun) is part of Mumbai U-14 team. His hard work has paid off. I hope people leave him alone to enjoy this beautiful game as a normal member of the team,” Tendulkar said yesterday.
One of Arjun’s coaches said: “He is just taking early steps in cricket. It is too early to say anything about his talent or compare him with Sachin. I feel he should just be treated as any other normal player.”
Mumbai Cricket Association though have a lot of expectations from the 12-year-old. “Arjun showed good form in the summer vacation U-14 tournament conducted by MCA.
He has the genes of none other than Sachin Tendulkar and we expect him to play well. He is surely a player to watch out for,” MCA joint secretary and junior selection panel convener, Dr PV Shetty said.
