MCA vs CCI battle intensifies

The India vs Sri Lanka Test match that concluded yesterday has intensified the bitterness between the Cricket Club of India (CCI), the owners of the stadium, and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), who allotted the match to CCI.

MCA assigned the match to CCI since the Wankhede Stadium, MCA's own facility, is being refurbished for the 2011 World Cup. The latest controversy revolves around the CCI management's demand to be paid Rs 75 lakh for hosting the match in advance.u00a0 "We are extremely unhappy with the manner in which the MCA was asked to pay Rs 75 lakh before the start of the match. After all, both MCA and CCI are two very reputed institutions," MCA treasurer Prof Ratnakar Shetty told MiD DAY yesterday.

The MCA biggies are so upset with the recent developments that it would not be wrong to say that CCI has hosted its last international game. "All I can say at the moment is that once the Wankhede Stadium is completely renovated, it is very unlikely that MCA will host any international match at any other venue," said Shetty.

Efforts to get CCI president Badal Mittal to comment on the issue did not meet with success.
