The Indian Premieru00a0League has become a point of much debate yet again thanks to a new set of leaked
e-mails which seeks to incriminate BCCI secretary N Srinivasan.
The e-mails, whose authenticity cannot be verified, suggest that Srinivasan and suspended IPL chairman Lalit Modi got together to 'stage' the player auction in 2009.
Here's the dope on the latest in the IPL saga:
Flintoff's mine
In the case of the auction which took place in February 2009, BCCI Secretary N Srinivasan, the e-mails suggest, used his position with Modi to set up for Andrew Flintoff to be bought by Chennai Super Kings.
Chennai Super Kings had a total purse of US$1.85 million in February 2009, but through Modi, Srinivasan
cancelled the contract of Sri Lankan Chamara Kapugedara at the last minute and swelled his purse to
US$2 million.
The e-mails suggest that Srinivasan got unfair advantage vis-a-vis the other teams.
Fight with warnie?
Flintoff was wanted by Rajasthan Royals as well. But Modi writes in the e-mail to Srinivasan that he made their skipper-coach Shane Warne understand.
E-mails suggest that Modi kept Srinivasan in the loop about how he convinced Rajasthan Royals not to suspend their Pakistan players especially Sohail Tanvir following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
In the same e-mails, today's bitter rivals Modi and Srinivasan are sharing sweet nothings on successfully
managing to keep rivals at bay.
Insider Info
Srinivasan is three-in-one in the BCCI ufffd the all-powerful BCCI secretary, IPL governing council member and Chennai Super Kings team owner.
E-mails suggest that Modi kept Srinivasan informed on the status of various teams as against their choices for auction in February 2009.
It is seen as indicating that Modi was helping Srinivasan 'plan' better for the auction after knowing how the other teams are placed.
Delay Kieron
Srinivasan, according to the e-mails, wanted Kieron Pollard on his roster for IPL 2010.u00a0 But once he failed to procure the Trinidadian for IPL 2010, Srinivasan put obstacles for Pollard.
Pollard was keen to miss the last three ODIs against Zimbabwe in March 2010. The West Indies board agreed because he was not a contracted player.
Srinivasan put a spoke citing contractual objections and the importance of international cricket.
Result: Pollard arrived late for Mumbai Indians and ended up playing the full ODIu00a0series against Zimbabwe.
