The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ejaz Butt appears to under fire from all sides with the national team captain, Mohammad Yousuf blaming him for the one-day series loss in Australia.
Yousuf, who returned home late last night, told reporters at the airport that the statement from Butt about the captain being changed after the tour had created dissension in the team. "After his statement, some players started fancying their chances of becoming captain and there was an automatic drop in the morale of the team and change in the environment of the dressing room. The statement contributed to our defeat in the one-day series," Yousuf said.
"The statement should not have been made in the middle of the series. It was ill-timed," he said.
Pakistan lost the Test series 0-3 and the one-day rubber 0-5 with Yousuf not playing the last ODI amidst reports off differences with the coaches Intikhab Alam and Waqar Younis.
"I don't think I have done a bad job as captain. Luck just didn't favour us on a tough tour, but I would love to continue as captain. If the Board wants to replace me, it is their decision," Yousuf added.
