India discard carves patient century for Delhi against Assam after skipper Ishant Sharma bags a fifer; Railways off track against UP at Lucknow
Gautam Gambhir started the new season in right earnest with a patient century as Delhi made a pedestrian Assam attack toil by reaching 269-4 at stumps on the second day of the Ranji Trophy group 'A' encounter here on Saturday. Courtesy Gambhir's 40th first-class hundred (136 batting, 245 balls) and his 207-run third-wicket stand with another centurion Nitish Rana (110), Delhi are in the driver's seat with an aim to log home full points. This was after Assam were all out for 258, starting the day at 224 for 7 with skipper Ishant Sharma returning figures of five for 38 in 20 overs.

There was yet another failure for erstwhile India under-19 captain Unmukt Chand (6), who was trapped leg before by right-arm medium pacer Krishna Das. Dhruv Shorey's (1) stumps went for a walk off an Abu Nechim delivery.
Railways in trouble again
Lucknow: In another Group 'A' match, after bowling hosts Uttar Pradesh out for 250, the Railways started their second innings on a sour note, losing three wickets for 27 at stumps, to trail by 41 runs. The Railways were bundled out for a paltry 182 in their first essay on the opening day at the Ekana Stadium.
Chatterjee scores 115
New Delhi: In a Group 'B' match at the Palam Ground in Delhi, Bengal declared their first innings at 552 for nine, with Sudeep Chatterjee (115), skipper Manoj Tiwary (69) and Wriddhiman Saha (55) amongst runs. In reply, Services were 103 for one at stumps on the second day. Mohd Shami claimed one.
Haryana struggling
Lahli: In a Group 'B' match, Saurashtra held the upper hand against hosts Haryana. After being bundled out for a mere 107 in their first innings, Haryana were struggling at 93-6, still trailing by 78 runs after being asked to follow on. Saurashtra medium-pacer Shaurya Sanandia has claimed six so far in the match. Earlier, Saurashtra posted 278 in their first innings.
TN concede lead v AP
Chernnai: In a Group 'C' match at Chennai, half-centuries by B Sumanth and Ashwin Hebbar gave Andhra Pradesh the crucial lead on the second day against Tamil Nadu. Their knocks helped Andhra wrest the initiative against the hosts after being 64 for 5 at one point to end the day at 231 for 7, a lead of 55. TN were dismissed for 176 on Friday.
Indore: Baroda started on a bad note, losing two for 36 at stumps against MP. Earlier, MP posted 551-8 with middle-order batsman Shubham (196) missing out on his double ton.
