India cricketer Rohit Sharma said yesterday it is not worth cutting down the trees in Aarey Colony as there is slight greenery in the city of Mumbai because of that patch.

Rohit Sharma took to social media website Twitter to voice his opinion. He tweeted: "Even if there is more to the story, nothing is worth cutting down something so vital. Part of Mumbai being slightly greener & slight difference in the temperature is mainly because of #AareyColony. How can we take that away, not to mention thousands of animals will displace."

Recently, the Bombay High Court had allowed the Maharashtra government to go ahead with cutting down of around 2,600 trees for the proposed shed for the upcoming Metro project in the city.

However, on Monday, the Supreme Court prohibited the cutting of any more trees in Aarey and directed the state government to maintain status quo till October 21, the next date of hearing.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is also impressing all with his performance on the cricket field. Rohit Sharma is part of the Indian cricket team that is playing South Africa in a Test series. Rohit Sharma was sent up the order for the first time in a role as an opener in Tests. He did not fail to impress as Rohit scored 176 runs and was also awarded the man of the match.
