Colombo: Tillakaratne Dilshan’s farewell Sri Lanka appearance did not go to plan as Australia secured their Twenty20 series with a nervy four-wicket win in Colombo.

Dilshan could manage just one as Sri Lanka crept to 128 for nine — a total that was never likely to be enough for an Australia side.

Glenn Maxwell picked up from where he left off in Pallekele, when he hit a 49-ball century, with 66 from 29 balls from the top of the order, although his exit did prompt an Australia wobble.

The tourists lost six batsmen for 27 runs.

But the 93-run opening-wicket stand between Maxwell and David Warner (25) had broken the back of the chase as Australia eventually secured victory when Travis Head crashed a six with 13 balls remaining.
