Sharfuddin Khan got Antonio D'Souza, Byculla off to a positive start in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association boys under-16 Div IV inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday. They beat Swami Vivekanand, Chembur 1-0 to bag all the three points from their opening fixture.
Coming on as a substitute, Sharfuddin broke the deadlock firing home a close range winner much to the delight of their coach, Christo Rosario who claimed that he didn't want to take any risks with his mid-fielder just recovering from malaria. "He wasn't attending practice sessions due to malaria. We decided that we won't start with him and would use him as a substitute rather. I'm just glad the decision paid off," said an elated Rosario.
The margin of victory could have been better for the Byculla side but for a missed penalty and several other half chances.
