Gavaskar had a special message for the tournament's highest run-getter Shreyas Iyer. "You had a fantastic season, but I want to see you scoring 200, 250, 270 and more. That's when you will really get noticed for India selection," said the former India captain.

While speaking to reporters later, Gavaskar explained why he wanted Iyer to score big hundreds. "There are a lot of players scoring hundreds and they are all knocking on the selectors' doors. But if you score double and triple tons consistently, you knock a bit harder than the others," he said.

Gavaskar also praised Mumbai's middle-order batsman Siddhesh Lad for scoring a crucial 88 in the Ranji Trophy final against Saurashtra in Pune.
