Two national selectors informed me that they have no say in selection matters, says formeru00a0BCCI secretary Jayawant Lele
Former Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary, Jayawant Lele says all is not well when it comes to the national selection headed by former captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth.
Eyebrows in Indian cricket were raised when Srikkanth's son, Anirudha was picked in the Emerging Players' squad to tour Australia next month.
The team was chosen by the national selectors in Chennai last week. "At least two members of the current committee are rubber stamps," said Lele. "Two selectors had complained to me that they have no say in team selection. 'We can't raise our concerns. If we do so, we may lose our jobs,' they told me recently," Lele said from Baroda.
"Who would be foolish to disagree with them (the dominating segment of the committee) and lose the Rs 25 lakh-per-year remuneration," two selectors told Lele.
Stop paying selectors
The straight-talking Lele believes this is good reason for the BCCI to stop paying selectors. "During my tenure as secretary, I never allowed one selector to rule over others. I will inform BCCI president Shashank Manohar about what the two selectors have told me." Lele stressed.
Anirudha played for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He scored 251 in nine innings for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy.
Srikkanth did not respond to calls on his cell phone.
