Lahore: Pakistan's head coach Waqar Younis resigned on Monday weeks after his team's humiliating exit from the World Twenty20 in the group stages.
Pakistan lost three consecutive matches at the group stage of the World T20, including a bruising defeat to India, to exit the tournament amidst heavy criticism.

They had also lost to New Zealand and Australia while managing just one win against Bangladesh.

Pakistan's T20 captain Shahid Afridi has also stepped down from his post accepting responsibility for the poor show.
“I am resigning from my post today with a heavy heart,” he was quoted as saying by dawn.com in a press conference at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.
Incidentally, a day earlier, Waqar had asserted that he did not want to bow out being painted a "villain".
The 44-year-old, who first coached the side in 2010-11, wants his recommendations to be implemented by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
"I want my recommendations to be implemented. They were not acted on when I first made them in 2015."
A part of his report to the PCB was leaked to media. He had criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board's decision to not give him a say in the selection process and also questioned the leadership style of Afridi.
"We lost to New Zealand, Asia Cup and the World T20 due to poor captaincy. Over several occasions, I had made it clear that Shahid Afridi was not performing with the bat, ball or as a captain but I was not listened to," he said.
The former captain said the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) failure to implement his recommendations after the 2015 World Cup and the "leak" of his confidential report after the team's disastrous run at the World T20 played a 'big' role in his walking away from his post three months before his contract expires.
"I had made a lot of recommendations after the 2015 World Cup, including sending some boys back to first-class cricket for at least a season so that they can regain their hunger for the game and re-think their approach and attitude to play for Pakistan, but no recommendation was implemented."
“The cricket board’s failure to work on my recommendations after the 2015 World Cup is the major reason for my disappointment,” Waqar stated.
“And the leak of a confidential report after the World T20 also influenced my decision. Ultimately, I want the betterment of Pakistan cricket and it is only right to walk away. I will, however, be available to help Pakistan in anyway,” he added.
