In the wake of Mohammed Siraj's heroic performance during the fifth Test match between India and England at The Oval, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali stated that India's star pacer has matured into a genuine match-winner for his side, making it challenging for a batsman to face him.
"Siraj has been outstanding in the England series. The energy, aggression, and consistency he brings with the ball is world-class. He's matured into a genuine match-winner for India, and it's always a challenge for batsmen facing him," said Moeen in a release from GFS Developments.
In the recently concluded five-match Test series against England, the pacer claimed 23 wickets, which was the highest by any bowler in the tournament. The series, however, ended in a 2-2 draw.
The former English cricketer also highlighted Siraj's ability to control the ball and his attitude of never backing down during the face-off with any batsman.
"What impresses me most is his ability to control the ball. He's got a big heart and never backs down - that's what makes him so special. Credit to him for the impact he's making," said the 38-year-old.
In the Test series against the 'Three Lions', Mohammed Siraj bowled 185.3 overs.
In the first innings of the fifth Test match, the pacer took four wickets, conceding 86 runs. He then registered five wickets, conceding 104 runs in the second innings.
For his match-winning contributions, the Hyderabad-born cricketer was also awarded 'Player of the Match'.
Apart from him, several young cricketers also stood their ground for India on different occasions. From Sai Sudharsan to Akash Deep, the players delivered memorable performances.
Additionally, the series proved to be a special one for Shubman Gill. In his debut series as the Test captain, the 25-year-old showcased his skills by smashing 754 runs in five matches. India managed to secure a draw in a hard-fought series, even as they played without stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Riding on their performances, Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sudharsan will be in contention for the Indian squad in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
