The team led by Harmanpreet Kaur has gone where no other Indian women’s side has gone before. They have recorded their first-ever T20I series win over England, be it here or back home, when they defeated the hosts with consummate ease in the fourth match played at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday night to take an unbeatable 3-1 lead.

Dominant wins for visitors

Having won the first two games, at Nottingham and Bristol, India allowed England to reduce the margin in the third at The Oval. The win at Old Trafford was again set up by Indian spinners Radha Yadav, Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma as they restricted England to a mere 126-7. Though India lost a couple of wickets close to the target, they were home comfortably with six wickets and 18 balls to spare.

India have played and lost six T20I series against England — three each at home and away. Coming to England, not many had given the Indian girls much of a chance, but they have exceeded all expectations and are upbeat ahead of the last game to be played at Birmingham on Saturday.

Player of the match Radha Yadav (2-15) was all praise for the atmosphere and the camaraderie in this team. “This time, this team, this atmosphere, it’s magical,” Radha said. “We want to create something big going forward. We are going to dominate, no matter what,” she added.

The win is significant as the 2026 T20I World Cup will be played here in England next June. And after this series win, India will be considered to be among the favourites.

‘Worked on all our plans’

Harmanpreet credited the win to the solid preparation back home and the experience of having played in three seasons of the franchise-based Women’s Premier League. “We had very good camps [before coming here] and worked hard on our plans and accordingly, executed it here. Everyone knew their role and that’s how we played. Moreover, we have now played three seasons of the WPL and every season has been special — we have gotten a lot of experience. And the good thing is that we are able to execute in international cricket as well,” said Harmanpreet, moments after the win.

On wanting to make it 4-1, she said: “We need to keep doing the right things again and again and hopefully we can do that [at Edgbaston].”
