Promising all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy finds himself at the centre of a legal dispute after returning home early from the ongoing Test series in England.

Reddy, who was part of India’s squad for the five-match series, sustained a knee injury after the third Test and was ruled out of the remainder of the tour. However, what awaited him back home was far more complex than just rehabilitation.

Reddy has been dragged into a legal battle by his former management agency, Square The One Private Limited, which has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding Rs 5 crore in unpaid dues. The agency has alleged breach of contract and non-payment under the terms of a long-standing agreement with the cricketer.

Square The One, which began managing Reddy’s professional engagements in 2021, claims to have played a pivotal role in securing commercial endorsements and brand partnerships for the Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder during their four-year association. According to sources quoted by India Today, the dispute began when Reddy opted to switch managers during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 against Australia, ending his ties with the agency.

The petition, filed under Section 11(6) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, states that Reddy failed to clear his dues even after repeated reminders. The agency accuses him of breaching their management agreement by walking away without settling outstanding payments. A source familiar with the matter said, “Ninety percent of such disputes do not reach court and are resolved privately. But in this case, Nitish refused to pay any money and claimed he had secured the deals himself.”

The Delhi High Court is expected to hear the case on Monday, July 28. Legal experts believe this could set a precedent for future disputes between athletes and their management firms, particularly in cricket, where commercial stakes are high.

Already trailing 1–2 in the Test series, the team have been hit by a spate of injuries. Following Reddy’s withdrawal due to a knee injury, pacers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were also ruled out of the fourth Test. In response, Anshul Kamboj was called up as Arshdeep’s replacement for the Manchester Test, while Sai Sudharsan was included in the playing XI in place of Karun Nair.
