India’s premier wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has dropped to third place in the latest ICC ODI bowling rankings, released on Wednesday. South Africa’s left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj reclaimed the No. 1 spot following a match-winning performance against Australia in the first ODI of their three-match series in Cairns.
Maharaj, 35, delivered a stunning spell of 5 for 33, earning him the Player of the Match award and propelling South Africa to a commanding 98-run victory. His efforts helped him leapfrog both Kuldeep and Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana to reclaim the top ranking, that he briefly held in November and December 2023.
Among Indian bowlers, only Ravindra Jadeja joins Kuldeep in the top 10 of the updated ODI rankings, highlighting India’s limited movement due to a lack of recent matches since their Champions Trophy title win.
Seales, Abrar make big gains
West Indies pacer Jayden Seales surged 15 places to reach 18th in the rankings after a sensational six-wicket haul (6 for 18) in the final ODI against Pakistan. Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed also climbed 15 spots to joint-39th, while West Indies off-spinner Roston Chase rose five places to 58th.
Gill, Iyer shine in batting rankings
India’s Shubman Gill continues to lead the ODI batting rankings with 784 points, maintaining his position at the top. Shreyas Iyer remains the only other Indian in the top 10, holding steady at sixth place.
West Indies skipper Shai Hope broke into the top 10, rising two spots to ninth after his unbeaten 120 in the final ODI against Pakistan. South Africa’s Aiden Markram (up four places to 21st), Temba Bavuma (up five places to 23rd), and Australia’s Mitchell Marsh (up six spots to 48th) also made upward moves.
Abhishek, Tilak dominate T20I batting rankings
In the T20I format, Indian youngsters Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma continue to dominate, retaining the top two positions in the ICC batting rankings. India captain Suryakumar Yadav holds the sixth spot, while Yashasvi Jaiswal rounds out the top 10.
South Africa’s Dewald Brevis climbed nine places to reach 12th after a consistent run of form, while Australians Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell moved up four and 10 spots, respectively, to sit at 25th and 30th.
Ellis, Hazlewood, Rabada rise in T20I bowling
On the bowling front, Australia’s Nathan Ellis broke into the top 10, moving up three places to ninth, with teammate Josh Hazlewood rising to 18th. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada also made a notable jump, climbing from 44th to 37th in the T20I rankings.
