The inaugural edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was one to remember for the ages.
A young Indian team under the leadership of the newly appointed skipper, Shubman Gill, toured England. Team India locked horns against the 'Three Lions' without the services of their premier players, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Despite various challenges coming their way, the Shubman Gill-led India managed to secure a draw by 2-2 against the Englishmen.
Following the series result, legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar heaped praise on the incumbent skipper.
The former cricketer noted that the 25-year-old's footwork was precise and his defence seemed to be rock-solid as well.
"His thought process was good, and that reflected in his footwork as well. His footwork was precise and he respected a good ball, his front foot defence was solid as well," said Sachin Tendulkar as quoted by the ICC.
Since it was the first captaincy assignment for not-so-young Gill in the traditional format, Tendulkar was satisfied with his skills leading the side.
"Captaincy I feel it has a lot to do with how bowlers are bowling, how disciplined they are and how much they stick to the plan even if things don't go according to your plan sometimes. Since it is important to not get tensed and change your plans completely," he said.
England, under the captaincy of Ben Stokes and coaching of Brendon McCullum, has been practising an aggressive approach, which they term 'Bazball'.
Speaking on England's batting approach, the former player shared a piece of advice by saying it is important to play 'boring' cricket against the most attacking batting side in the format currently.
"Against England it is important to dry runs, almost play boring cricket, I felt he controlled the team well against probably the most attacking batting side in Test cricket currently," said the veteran of 200 Test matches.
In the fifth Test match against the 'Three Lions', Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj rattled through the hosts' batting lineup.
The pacer was also named the 'Player of the Match' for his match-winning contributions. In England's first innings, the Hyderabad-born cricketer returned with the figures of four wickets by conceding 86 runs. Later, in the second essay, he registered a five-wicket haul for 104 runs.
Riding on his stunning performance, the Shubman Gill-led India registered a victory by six runs against England at The Oval.
