Mohammed Shami is the toast of India, thanks to his splendid performances through the tournament. He has earned extra plaudits for his wicket-taking ways after being benched initially.

His UP-based coach Badruddin Siddique couldn’t be happier with his ward’s 14 scalps in three games, including an unbelievable show against Sri Lanka in Mumbai the other day.

“It’s clearly a dream run. He could have got more wickets had he been given a chance earlier in the tournament.

“We in Moradabad want him to win the Cup for India. He should contribute in the same manner and help India win their third ODI World Cup.

“Look at the way he is running in. He is in top rhythm, the most essential factor for a pace bowler. He is getting the rewards for hard work, splendid work. He is in excellent physical condition and remember, he worked very hard during the pandemic here. I had told him not to sit idle during that period and he is enjoying the fruits of success for that labour,” said Badruddin.
