In the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the West Indies, Team India emerged victorious by five wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Following the victory, the “Men in Blue” have sealed their spot in the semi-final of the global showpiece. They will now lock horns with England on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Ahead of the semi-final match against the “Three Lions”, former cricketer Irfan Pathan has raised a concern for Team India. He feels that swashbuckling Abhishek Sharma’s poor form will be a concern for the hosts.
“One concern is Abhishek Sharma's form again. After scoring that fifty, it felt like he would continue making runs, but when he went for that shot, his back knee was bent too much, and his body weight was falling backwards. Ideally, more weight should have been on the front foot, as that suits him better. He will need to pay attention to that,” he said on his YouTube channel.
The former cricketer then said that skipper Suryakumar Yadav needs to score runs against bigger teams.
“Suryakumar will need to score runs against bigger teams, and that is something he must keep in mind,” said Pathan. Considering that Wankhede is the home ground for the skipper, the cricket fans will keep a tab on him to deliver a big knock.
Additionally, Team India's think tank will also expect Ishan Kishan to find his form back. It will be interesting to see if the "Men in Blue" manage to defeat the "Three Lions" in the semi-final 1 of the mega tournament at the Wankhede Stadium.
Before Team India's match, South Africa and New Zealand will clash against each other in the semi-final 1 of the marquee event. The match will be played on March 4 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The title clash of the global showpiece is scheduled to be played on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
