Johannesburg: Dimitri Payet scored twice to help West Ham claim a 2-0 defeat over Newcastle in ongoing Premier League season at Boleyn Ground.

With the win, West Ham has climbed up to the fifth spot with nine points from five games while Newcastle slipped to the foot in the Premier League table.

In their fifth Premier League match, attacking midfielder Payet placed a rising shot into the top corner of the net to put his side ahead in the ninth minute, Sport24 reported.

The 28-year-old, who joined West Ham on a five¿year deal in June 2015,doubled the lead just three minutes after the interval.

West Ham will next lock horns with Man City on September 19.
