Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati won the women’s Ballon d’Or by edging out her international teammate Mariona Caldentey. Bonmati, 27, was named player of the tournament at the Euros, where Spain lost to England in the final. She also helped her club to a domestic treble while registering 16 goals and 12 assists across all competitions for the Catalan giants.
“I still can’t believe it. I am very proud. I am here for the third consecutive time because of the teams I play in, so all of this is because of them,” Bonmati said.
