A commanding brace from midfielder Reenesh Kotian powered Don Bosco High School (Borivli) to a comfortable 4-0 win over Gokuldham High School (Goregaon) in a boys U-16 Division I match of the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school football at the Wings Sports Centre, Bandra.

The Borivli outfit opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Cristiano Lewis rose highest to meet Aarav Kataria’s perfectly curled corner, to head the ball home. Three minutes later, Reenesh doubled the lead with a composed finish into the bottom right corner, after neatly working his way past the Gokuldham defence. Saumil Wadgaonkar (22nd min) made it 3-0 just before half-time after which Reenesh (40th min) netted his second off a stunning free-kick that curled beyond goalkeeper Aadi Kelkar and into the top-left corner.

Don Bosco and St Paul’s High School (Dadar), who are both on three points each in Group D, will battle it out on Wednesday for a place in the quarter-finals. Cathedral and John Connon have already qualified after topping the group.

Meanwhile, Jamnabai Narsee, who failed to turn up for their girls U-16 Division I fixture against Cathedral and John Connon on Friday (July 25), have written to MSSA, requesting them to reschedule the match.

A walkover had been awarded to Cathedral after the Jamnabai team was delayed due to a District Sports Office-organised football match earlier in the day. In response, MSSA have informed Jamnabai that they will have to pay a R5,000 penalty as per the tournament’s rules. MSSA football secretary Sebastian Fernandes confirmed that Cathedral have been notified and expressed their willingness to play the rescheduled match on July 30 at 2pm.
