St Paul’s High School (Dadar) recorded a crucial 2-0 win over Smt RSB Arya Vidya Mandir (Juhu) in a MSSA boys U-16 Div-I Group ‘C’ match at the St Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivli, on Saturday.

In an absorbing contest, the schoolboys from Dadar managed to score two goals for their second win in the group. The three points earned ensured St Paul’s finish with six points from two wins and a loss to Cathedral & John Connon (Fort) and are now assured of a place in the quarter-final play-offs.

The promoted Juhu side played with positive intent from the start and matched the Dadar outfit in almost every department. But they lost focus towards the fag end and the energetic St Paul’s strikers seized the opportunity with their captain Gururaj Mane having a hand in both goals.

In the 46th minute, Gururaj’s swerving flag-kick sailed over the rival defence and landed perfectly for Ved Bhosale to direct the ball into the back of the net. Three minutes later, a brilliant combined move which involved Atharva Hate and Mantahn Walke, the ball was relayed to Gururaj, who put the finishing touch to double the lead and seal the win.

Tyrell on target

In mid-day’s edition, dated August 4 (page 34, under headline, ‘St Joseph’s, Orlem post 3-0 win over Cambridge, Kandivili), the report should have had a mention of Tyrell Fernandes scoring a goal. The error is regretted.
