St Stanislaus High School (Bandra) dished out another positive performance, marching on to a 3-1 victory over St Lawrence High School (Kandivli) in a MSSA U-16 Div-I Group ‘D’ match at the St Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivli, on Monday.
The Bandra boys were inspired by the brilliance of their prolific striker Yohan Britto, who notched up a fine hat-trick to secure their second win. Raghav Yadav scored a late consolation goal for the Kandivli lads. Last year’s runners-up St Stanislaus top the group with six points and are assured of a place in the quarter-finals. Stanislaus had earlier rallied to overcome St Joseph’s (Wadala) 2-1 in their first match with Yohan scoring both goals.

In another match of the same group, St Joseph’s (Wadala) beat Christ Church (Byculla) 1-0 with Dominic Francis netting the match-winner in the 37th minute. In the third match of the day, St Mary’s ICSE (Mazagaon) got the better of Campion School (Cooperage Road) 3-1. St Mary’s striker Rajveer Chauhan scored a brace (27th and 43rd minute) while Kahan Goregaonkar scored their third goal (49th minute). Campion pulled one back through Siddhanth Sharma (39th minute).

Later, reigning champion Don Bosco (Matunga) staged a late fightback to share honours with Bombay Scottish (Mahim) in a 1-1 draw in a keenly contested Group ‘B’ encounter.
The Scottish lads stunned the Bosco boys when striker Arnav Kashikar beat goalkeeper Atharva Gaonkar in the 16th minute. Don Bosco, however, managed to snatch the equaliser through Arya Kamble (37th minute) much to the relief of his teammates. Don Bosco and Scottish, who had defeated St Mary’s ICSE 2-0 in the opening match, have four points each from two games while St. Mary are on three points.

Meanwhile, Jamnabai Narsee (Juhu) once again played truant and did not report for their Group ‘A’ match against St Joseph’s Secondary (Malad). Last week, they had not turned up for their opener against Cambridge School (Kandivli).

MSSA football Secretary Sebastian Fernandes told mid-day that the Juhu school have confirmed their participation, so he cannot understand why they’re handing out walkovers. Their opponents felt that had they been informed in advance, they would not have incurred the expenses of hiring a bus to ferry their players for the match.
