It's not every day that a comedy special can make you chuckle and sigh in the same breath. But Shraddha Jain or Aiyyo Shraddha, as she’s known on the Internet, has never been one to follow the rulebook.

Shraddha Jain is bringing her debut live set, So Mini Things, to Mumbai. Produced by Livetree Entertainment, Shanmukhananda Hall in Sion East will host the final two shows on July 19. “The show is called So Mini Things because it’s anecdotal. It has a lot of lived experiences that have shaped my outlook in life,” she says.

So Mini Things, much like its name, is a collage of thoughts. There’s no big reveal, no punchline-for-the-headlines. Jain takes you through her perspective and stories of childhood oddities, family dinners, and inner dialogues, and collects laughs as she goes. It’s tender, like the best family gossip.

An engineer- turned-RJ-turned-creator, Jain first won the Internet with her sketch-style Reels: fictional moms-in-the-car, colleagues-on-Zoom, and a rotating cast of aunties and uncles we know all too well. All in her signature style — clean, observational comedy that felt relatable. Was it deliberate? “It was organic,” says Jain, “I started writing when I got into radio and television. There are very strict rules about what you say on air. You have to be very responsible, and I think because my writing foundations are from there, that’s exactly how I write,” she says.

Somewhere between going viral and going global, Jain made a leap that few content creators attempt: live performance. Did going off-screen challenge her differently? Of course. Jain says that at the start, her radio jockey self kicked in. “I would not pause enough, I would talk very fast. It took some time but now I have settled into the set.”

While Jain didn’t have stage fright, like most comics she was worried about hecklers at first. “But now I’m more aware of my surroundings. I don’t get frazzled or alarmed if an audience member talks back to me. I play along. So that means I have become comfortable with this medium,” says Jain.
After touring 10 countries and 45+ cities, Jain says her other challenge — getting the punchline in different languages — has become her biggest advantage. “When I’m doing this set in Mumbai or Pune, there is so much Marathi in the set, in Chennai it’s in English, in Delhi it’s Hindi. Punches work differently when the language combination is different. That improvisation, mixing languages and using it to my advantage, is something I have consciously tried to do,” she says.

Earlier this year, Jain received the “Most Creative Creator – Female” at the 2024 National Creators Awards from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It didn’t change the way she creates content or writes her scripts. But it gave her recognition in her hometown and made it easy for her to explain her job to elders who always wondered how she made her buck.

As she prepares to take a final bow in Mumbai, Jain sounds more content. “My Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad audience, they were some of the first to tell me, go international. I have footage of them coming up to the stage and telling me in Marathi and Gujarati. The kind of confidence that Mumbai and Pune give me it’s so precious,” says Jain.
