New York: Facebook and Instagram are coming up with a new dashboard that will show you the total time you have spent on the app.
The new feature will also allow you to temporarily mute the push notifications.

According to a report by The Verge, the new features called 'Your time on Facebook' (Facebook) and 'Your activity' (Instagram), are designed to deal with the issue of addiction.
While the feature will be launched worldwide after a couple of weeks, it has been made available, for a dry run, to 1 percent of the users. A screenshot of this feature leaked last month.
On Facebook, the feature will be listed under the hamburger menu (three vertical lines in the bottom-right corner of the app) while on Instagram it will be a part of the setting menu.
The dashboard will present a bar chart that will show you the time you have spent on the app in the past seven days. It will also allow you to set the length of time you want to spend on that particular app and will send you a reminder once you reach that limit.
Ameet Ranadive, leader of the Instagram team devoted to users well-being, said, "We want these tools to be widely available to the whole community and to anyone that would benefit from using them. It's really important for people that use Instagram and Facebook to feel like the time that they spend with us is time well spent. That's the whole purpose of this release."
"We want to empower people to make intentional decisions about how much time they spend, and how they want to engage with the app," he added.
The social media platforms have faced a lot of criticism in past years for courting their users' attention throughout the day. The obsession with these apps is becoming a major concern today.
