If you don’t like Google Drive, there are multiple options to set up your personal cloud server with access to your documents and files from anywhere in the world. While the program is meant mostly for document storage, there are also ways to customise your set-up. You can add many features to the base Owncloud, such as document editing, external storage support, calendar synchronisation, music, and gallery. You can access your Owncloud from any smartphone or web browser.

Why set up a blog from a provider when you can host your very own from WordPress on your Raspberry Pi?  You will need a static IP address, and the installation is a bit complicated, but imagine all the fantastic skills you will gain and the satisfaction you will have at the end of the project. Like Owncloud, Nextcloud is another file server that you need in your life. Nextcloud can not only store your files, images, and data but also allow you to add users to your server, which means your family members can upload their pictures and data securely on the server. The clever feature that makes Nextcloud stand out is the apps. You can enhance your Netcloud server’s capacity by adding more functionality, including calendars, contacts, mail, video calls, chat, and other apps. All of this data is in your control on your premises. Search for the Pi version on their site.

Password sharing on Netflix will soon be a thing of the past, and if you need an alternative, try playing around with Jellyfin on your Raspberry Pi. The app lets you create a collection of movies, shows, photos, books and music. It presents a visual way that looks almost like Netflix. All the media you put into it is automatically sorted with synopsis, images, and ratings downloaded. It also keeps track of what you have watched, and you can access it from any system.

Google Photos discontinued their free service a while back, and it has been a pain deciding which photos to delete With Immich, you may not need to delete anything ever again, Instead, of the 15GB free or the 200GB paid service from Google, you can install Immich on a Raspberry Pi, attach a hard drive, and potentially have unlimited storage space to keep anything you like. The program features a very familiar interface, very similar to Google Photos, and it can be used for context searches, map-based images, and sharing.

Volumio aims to make your Raspberry Pi an audiophile’s dream machine. The program is designed to help you build on the Pi’s audio capabilities through both hardware and software. You can attach all sorts of audiophile equipment to Pi with Volumio. The server can be used to stream music or control music, rip songs from your music CDs, organise and stream your music to speakers in your home, or even to your Chromecast or Sonos devices. The smart program can also suggest music and songs that you may like.

Audible is not the only audiobook game in town. You can now build your own personal audiobook service with Audiobookshelf. Once installed, the software can identify your audiobooks, mark chapters, narrators, synopsis, and images for your audiobooks. You need to take your server online so it can be accessed from anywhere. Once ready, you can listen to your collection from a web browser or even through your phone using the iOS or Android app. The apps are still in beta, but they work.
