I broke up with my boyfriend a few days ago and am already regretting it because I feel lost and abandoned. He didn’t want to end the relationship, but I felt we had reached a point where we couldn’t see eye-to-eye on anything anymore. We didn’t have anything joyful between us and the sadness only kept growing. I tried to fix this multiple times, but nothing worked. I am second-guessing myself now because we were together for less than a year and I don’t know if I was too hasty. There was definitely love too, but I didn’t think it was enough, and I am asking myself if I should have been more patient. How will I know if I did the right thing?
You decided to end this because it wasn’t working for you, which is all that matters. Being with someone for a year or six is meaningless if it doesn’t meet your expectations of what the relationship is meant to do. It’s normal to question yourself because these are never easy decisions but try exercising that patience when it comes to how you cope with this. Time and distance often lead to clarity, and you will find the answer to your question only when you have given yourself the ability to think about what went wrong and why it didn’t work out. There may be regret too, but it will come from a place of honesty, not grief, which is important.

I’ve fallen in love with a married man and don’t know what to do about it. There is no hope of him leaving his wife, so I am effectively trapped by my own desires. How do I get out of this?
Putting aside the moral and legal implications of this, you are wondering how you can get out of a situation you want to wilfully get into. If you know there is no future here, you have to ask yourself whether your temporary desires are more important than your future and your overall well-being.
