If he isn’t giving you what you need despite being told, you should ask yourself why you are in this relationship and what you hope to get from it.

I recently broke up with someone I was in a long-distance relationship with and have been struggling with my decision. We were together for two years before he moved to another country for work, and we tried to make it happen for another year after the move, but it kept getting harder. His inability to come and meet me only made it difficult to sustain my feelings for him and I eventually decided it was not good for my mental health. I don’t know if I did the right thing though, because there has been no one who has understood me the way he has. If feel as if I was hasty, but the pain and difficulty of separation was real. Should I give it another chance?
You know what the pros and cons of a long-distance relationship are and are clear about your feelings for this person. If you want to give it another chance, it has to be done with your eyes wide open, in the sense that you know what you are signing up for. Long-distance relationships are challenging but not impossible if both partners understand what needs to be done to alleviate the pain of separation. If you want to give it another chance, you will both have to put in a lot more work and also come up with a plan that involves meeting in person. Without that, the state of constant separation may only bring you back to this point in the future. Reach out to him, talk about your fears, and ask him if he is prepared to do more to address them, because you will struggle to do this alone.
I’m unable to explain to my boyfriend that he isn’t giving me the love and affection I need. What should I do?
If he isn’t giving you what you need despite being told, you should ask yourself why you are in this relationship and what you hope to get from it. His refusal to listen seriously is a red flag.
