Students allege institute wrongly led them to believe that its PG course was full-time
Forty-three students of the postgraduate diploma course in Business Management have individually filed a case against the Dina Institute of Hotel and Business Management in Pune after their third semester. The institute has allegedly taken fees for a full-time course, whereas the Pune University shows it to be part-time.
A student said, "We paid Rs 2.3 lakh per head for the course, whereas the part-time course costs around
Rs 25,000. We want our money back." The students filed complaints against eight management members on February 12 at the Pune lower court. The court asked Chatushrungi police station to investigate the matter.
On March 19, the police submitted a report stating that the course in question was indeed a part-time course.
On the same day, members of the institute filed for anticipatory bail in the sessions court, which rejected the plea. In response, the members went absconding.

Meanwhile, the management approached the Mantralaya, higher and technical education department, to change the status of the course to full-time, claiming that the earlier government resolution (GR) had a printing error. The revised resolution was passed on April 1. The members have now challenged the case in the Bombay High Court. Deputy Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Kantilal Umap, said, "We were unaware that the matter was in court when the order was passed.u00a0 We have sent another report." Sources from Mantralaya said, "Dina Institute approached the Mantralaya to rectify the GR. However, after learning of the students' grievances, we reinvestigated the matter. The revised GR may be declared null."u00a0u00a0u00a0
Indrajyot Oberoi, founder of Dina Institute, said, "The students are trying to malign the institute's name because of poor attendance. The Shikshan Shulka Samiti will now decide the course fees."
