Doctors at KEM hospital who successfully helped a 19-year-old woman deliver a healthy baby boy on Saturday were in for a shock when the woman’s mother informed them that the teenager had been gang-raped by three unidentified men in a moving car in April, after which she conceived.
After the girl’s mother confided in doctors, a case was registered with the Bhoiwada police. The case was then transferred to the Vithalwadi police, under whose jurisdiction the rape had occurred nine months back.
According to the police, the girl was kidnapped near the Kali Mata temple in Vithalwadi. She was pulled into a car, where three unidentified men injected her with a drug and then raped her while the vehicle was moving.
The girl’s family had been afraid to lodge the complaint earlier, and only spoke of the incident when doctors at KEM asked about the father’s baby.
One of the doctors said on condition of anonymity, “The girl has delivered a baby boy and both the mother and the child are healthy. However, the relatives of the patient are not willing to speak to anyone about the incident.”
The case was registered on charges of rape and kidnapping.
