St Andrew's Zeeyan Nevrekar and Sujal Ghanekar scored a goal each to help the Bandra outfit enter the semi-finals of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised Ahmed Sailor boys' under-16 knockout football tournament.

They beat Jamnabai Narsee International School (Juhu) 2-1 in the quarter-finals at Azad Maidan yesterday.

The dominant Bandra side took just two minutes to open their account when midfielder Zeeyan struck the ball back into the net, courtesy a quick assist from Sujal. After conceding the first goal, the Juhu team continued applying pressure on the opposition defence. Jamnabai Narsee stuck to their 4-1-4-1 formation.

The plan worked. In the 12th minute, Jamnabai's striker Vivaan Malhotra hammered the ball in after receiving a pass from Rohaan Thadani. Both teams were locked 1-1 at half time.

On resumption, the pendulum kept shifting as both teams looked to go for the kill. The Juhu side missed two opportunities to score. In the 27th minute, the Bandra team skipper Nester Mascarenhas tried to clear the ball from the half-line and in the process, played it to Sujal, who made no mistake in slotting the winner.

Meanwhile, in another quarter-final, striker Aryaan Majumdar's brace helped Campion School (Cooperage) enter the semis as they beat St Joseph's (Wadala) 2-0.
