The Italian and Liverpool striker's three word tweet poking fun at Manchester United after their 3-5 defeat to Leicester in September -- ‘Man utd… LOL,’ -- got 200,000+ retweets and 100,000 favourites, while Wozniacki was on top due to her split with golfer Rory McIlroy.

According to reports, Sportmail went through the archives for best tweet over the last year and were glad to crown the former Manchester City footballer who never shies away from media spotlight for using Twitter as a platform to expresses himself.

He also was trending during the World Cup in Brazil, when speaking ahead of Italy’s clash with Costa Rica, the controversial striker said that if he were to score and keep England in competition for qualification he would expect a kiss from none other than the Queen of England herself. Italy lost 1-0, and Balotelli and the world were left wondering.

On the other hand, the Danish tennis player became a super trend on Twitter when she announced her engagement to professional golfer, Rory McIlroy on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, only for him to break it off just 5 months later.

Pouring her heart out on Twitter, avid Liverpool fan Wozniacki thanked fans for their support, adding ‘Happy I support Liverpool right now because I know I’ll never walk alone’.

The 5ft 9in tennis star also hit back at her former husband-to-be with a well-worded snipe at golfer McIlroy, who stands two inches smaller. Tweeting a picture of herself in heels, she boasted about being able to wear the shoes for the first time since her relationship started with McIlroy.
