Self-proclaimed godman Ashok Jadeja conned several naive believers in and around Pune of more than Rs 12 cr; cops plan to move warrant against him.

Even as the list of persons duped by inter-state fraudster and self-proclaimed Godman Ashok alias Madi Jadeja and his 11 accomplices keeps increasing, the Yerwada police are planning to move the Sessions Courts for a warrant against him.

PCMC employee Hasana Singh Rajput Bhat, resident of Survey Number 8 in Yerwada, trusted enough in Jadeja's magical powers that he gave away his hard-earned Rs 4.6 lakhs after he was promised that the amount would be doubled in a month.

Said Bhat, "Jadeja told us that he has been blessed by the Sikodar Devi Mata, the patron goddess of the Sahasmal Bhatu community. My elder son is the last year student of BAMS while the younger one is pursuing his BSC degree. I want my money back. I had carefully saved the money for the higher education of my sons, and it is all gone now."

Senior Police Inspector Prasad Hasabnis told MiD DAY, "All the 11 suspects in the multi-crore fraud, including Dr Ashok Jadeja, are under the custody of the Ahmedabad police till June 11. We have recorded the statement of 350 among them so far, and expect to obtain the production warrant for Jadeja in the Sessions Court soon."

Sunil Malke, vice president, Sahasmal Bhatu Samaj, Maharashtra, told MiD DAY, "Almost 720 members of the community registered their complaints at the Yerwada Police station. They were duped of more than Rs 12.5 crore."

Advocate Moorchand Bhat, an advisor to the members of the Samaj, said, "Some members of our community who live in Ahmedabad told others Jadeja had tripled their money. Shortly, after the news did the rounds, a delegation from Pune went to Sarkhej near Ahmedabad and invited him to the city."

Malke added, "Our superstitious community easily came under Jadeja's spell. We even seated him on a chariot and took him along with his wife on a procession on April 26." Moorchand Bhat said, "Jadeja's accomplices kept accounts. When some of us asked him for a receipt, he said don't invest if you don't believe in me."
