Gurinder Sandhu, the son of an Indian taxi-driver, Iqbal, is all set to represent Australia in international cricket after being added to the Aussie squad along with pacer Kane Richardson for the first two games of the upcoming tri-nation ODI series against England and India on January 16 and 18 in Sydney and Melbourne respectively.

"Obviously, we are delighted with his inclusion. He will be the rare Indian to play for Australia and we are waiting for this proud moment," said an ecstatic Sandhu Sr from Sydney yesterday.

"We are planning to watch all the matches of the tri-series. We will cheer for the Australian team when he is playing against England and India. We want Australia to win the series. But we will support the Indian team for their matches against England," he added.

Gurinder and Richardson, who are not part of 15-member World Cup squad, have been added to give the likes of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Johnson a chance to rest.

The 22-year-old right-arm fast bowler was born in Australia to a Punjabi family, which migrated to Australia in the 1980's. His parents hail from Hardialeana, a village in Punjab's Faridkot district.

"We visit India every three years. However, Gurinder's hectic cricket schedule now does not permit us to come there frequently. Gurinder, however, did go to India to play some league matches," Iqbal said.
