After a disappointing home defeat against Aston Villa, Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that his team lacks the capability to win the Premier League title this year.
Chelsea are now level on points with sixth placed Liverpool and can find themselves battling for even a Champions League spot for the next season if the same pattern of dismal performances continues.
Villas-Boas has now admitted for the first time in the media that his present squad cannot win the Premier League title,The Telegraph reports.
"Our squad is not good enough to win the league. Not this year, not with this distance of points," said Villas-Boas. Chelsea are expected to sign Bolton defender, Gary Cahill during the January transfer window, but Villas-Boas said that the problem is with the whole squad and not only defense.
He also stressed on the fact that the players he had in the squad are world class, but at the moment they clearly lack confidence and aren't doing proper justice to their talent.
"I don't see that performance being only related to defensive problem. If there is something to correct, we need to regain that confidence in the way we build up from the back. It's an easy thing to solve with players of this technical ability," he added.
Chelsea has failed to win any of their last four games and Villas-Boas considers their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday of extreme importance.
He has also ordered his players to prove their worth and claim maximum points from their match against Wolves so that they can come back in contention for a top four spot.
