The toll in a landslide in southwest China last week has risen to nine after rescuers recovered two more bodies as search for 63 other missing people continues.

Nine people were killed and eight others injured following the landslide last Friday.

Officials with drilling machines and excavators continued their search for the missing people Monday.

The landslide buried an iron ore plant and 12 houses in Tiekuang Township in Wulong County.

The rescuers carried out explosions to enable drilling of holes to send food and air to the 27 trapped miners believed to be still alive underground.

"We believe the missing people are still alive, so we will spare no efforts to search for them," Chongqing Mayor Wang Hongju said Monday.

Meanwhile, the authorities have relocated 85 people from the affected area.
