Edin Dzeko has the Champions League in his sights after his debut goal in the Premier League. The Bosnia striker got the winner for Manchester City last night in the 1-0 victory against Blackburn at Ewood Park.

It was the 27-year-old's 10th appearance in England's top flight following his ufffd27million transfer from Wolfsburg in January. Dzeko amassed an impressive 66 goals in 111 Bundesliga games and earned a lucrative four-and-a-half-year deal with City in the process.

However it has been a frustrating three months for him with his four goals coming with a brace in the FA Cup against Notts County and another brace in the Europa League against Aris Salonika.

Yet all that was forgotten yesterday as he smashed the ball home in the 75th minute three minutes after stepping off the bench following a misplaced clearance by Phil Jones.

City are now four points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham and Dzeko wants them to maintain the momentum.

He said: "We have five more league games to play and we have to win the next one as it is at at home.

"It was a very tough game against Blackburn, very difficult with too many long balls. But we won and that's important. Sometimes you don't have to play from the beginning to score. Sometimes you can't score from a lot of chances and sometimes you get one chance and you score. That's football.

"I want to thank the fans for giving me big support. Even though I wasn't scoring the fans were behind me."
