Madrid: David Moyes was sent off as Real Sociedad crashed out of the Copa del Rey following a 2-2 home draw against Villarreal.
Moyes, unhappy that a number of decisions had gone against his team, argued with referee Carlos Carballo Velasco with nine minutes to go and was ordered to the stands after gesturing that the official needed glasses.
Trailing 1-0 from last week’s first leg, Moyes’s men’s uphill task became even tougher when Gerard Moreno scored.
Carlos Vela gave the hosts hope but Giovani Dos Santos put the tie beyond any doubt when he put Villarreal back in front 17 minutes from time.
Esteban Granero replied moments later to ensure Moyes remains unbeaten at Anoeta in five games since taking charge.
