Delhi, Jaipur not to host IPL matches

Give any sportsperson a choice of dishing out his skills in front of a home-backed crowd, he or she will be willing to give their right hand for it.

In that sense, Delhi Daredevils skipper Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Mithun Manhas would be feeling a touch unfortunate.

For, New Delhi, Jaipur and Visakhapatanam have been dropped as venues in the latest revised schedule for the second edition of the Indian Premier League, which is still awaiting the green signal from the Home Ministry.

The revised schedule, which was submitted to the Home Ministry yesterday, has left out these three venues as the respective state governments could not guarantee security because of the general elections.

Former India left-arm spinner Maninder Singh admitted that it is extremely unfortunate but felt nothing could be done about the situation.

"It is not because of cricketing reasons that Delhi has lost its place as an IPL host. It is unfortunate but what can be done? However, I don't feel the Delhi Daredevils fans will be deprived of any action because of the strong presence of media in our country. The matches are telecast live on TV and people will follow the matches on it," Maninder told MiD DAY from Delhi yesterday.

Ditto could be the case for defending champions Rajasthan Royals. The Royals, led by Shane Warne, played seven matches at home and won all of them comfortably. Obviously, they would feel the pinch of not having the advantage of playing in Jaipur.

So, as far as the Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals are concerned, there would be no such thing as home advantage. That's if the second edition of the IPL sees the light of day.
