The much-anticipated Simply The Blues Festival is back with its third edition, giving Blues fans plenty to look forward to as bands like Soulmate and Smokestack ready to take centre stage, starting today

Soulmate, the Indian Blues outfit from Shillong is arguably, one of the best Blues bands in the country. Giving them company at Simply The Blues festival that starts today is the Pune-based, Blues Jazz-World Groove band, Smokestack who will dish out their signature style and shades of Blues.

Soulmate has been entertaining Blues fans all over the world with performances in US, France, Germany, Sweden and many other venues. Their influences range from Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana to Etta James, Susan Tedeschi and Janis Joplin.

Smokestack, which will also be performing today, is a band that apart from Blues also includes in its repertoire a multitude of Folk and Roots music as well as rhythmic influences from around the world. Talking about what they have planned for the audience, Vishal Gore, bassist and vocalist of the band says, “You can expect Gospel-inspired A Capella songs, solo harmonica breakdowns, full-band harmonies, Indian music-inspired jams, dirty jokes and songs dedicated to Kareena Kapoor. We got a mix-bag of sound ready... This time, for the lovely Bebo — anything can and will show up at the gig! It’s not a band we say, it is a festival.”

Luke Kenny, who is the festival director says, “For me the most fulfilling factor is to see bands start playing their music to an audience that they would normally not have any access to. The four bands that have played so far are all Blues bands but yet each of their musicality is so different. The best thing is that it is all very entertaining.”

On Today, 8 pm onwards
At St Andrews Auditorium, Bandra.
