A candid chat with Juliet Sikora, German DJ and founder of Kittball Records
Q. How did you get into DJing?
A. I was surrounded by Electronic music since I was a child. My dad was a big fan of Jean Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk. He showed me the way into Electronic music. Besides, a close friend was a DJ; I found DJing interesting and he taught me my first DJ skills.
Juliet Sikora: German DJ and founder, Kittball Records
Q. This is your maiden visit to India. How did the India gig happen?
A. Yes, it’s my first visit in India and to be honest, I’m super excited to perform here. Paji, one of our main Kittball artists and Tube & Berger, my Kittball partners and mates played in January. They did a brilliant job to promote me and from that point, we had a good connection with our promoter. That is why I’m playing in India.
Q. What should your fans expect from the show?
A. Pumping sound with a bit of deepness. I like to surprise, expect the unexpected!
Q. What’s the idea behind your record label Kittball? Does the record label owner and artiste ever have a face-off? And who wins?
A. We call us the Kittball family; we are real friends and we try to push every member as much as we can. To work as an artiste is working hand in hand with the label; there is no competition. Even I have to say, It’s a perfect symbiosis, my own tool to promote myself and work closely with other artistes.
Q. Your Facebook page under genre says, ‘Music is not a style, it’s a passion,’ but you are being promoted as a Deep House and Nu Disco DJ. Are you against the classification of music in genres?
A. To be honest, I’m not happy that they peg me into a specific genre because I play everything from Deep House to Techno. The important thing is to create a special atmosphere and for this, you don’t need a genre. If you have the passion, all styles could fit into a DJ set.
