Panaji: A minor girl has accused the former Goa education minister and expelled Congress MLA Atanasio Monserratte of rape. The 16-year-old told the police that her stepmother and another man ‘sold’ her to the MLA for Rs 50 lakh.
A day after the Goa police registered an FIR against him, Monserratte appeared before the Crime Branch yesterday. He is yet to be arrested.
A complaint, filed at the Panaji police station and later transferred to the Women Police Station, states that the accused hatched a conspiracy and allegedly sold the girl to Monserratte in March for sexual exploitation.
The complaint further reads that Monserratte kept the minor in confinement and administered some stupefying substance before exploiting her on several occasions.

New Delhi: A 45-year-old man has been sentenced for 10 years for raping and trying to strangulate a woman, with a Delhi court terming his act as ‘barbaric, diabolic and disturbing’. The court described as the convict’s act as ‘vile’ and observed that the woman was subjected to one of the most ‘reprehensible’ crimes in 2014.
23-year-old abducts, rapes 15-year-old
Nagpur: A 15-year-old girl, who was abducted along with her eight-year-old brother, was allegedly raped by a youth, the police said yesterday. The girl and her brother were allegedly kidnapped from the city’s Sonegaon area on Tuesday afternoon by a 23-year-old youth from Bheemwadi, the police stated in a press release.
