Glenn Maxwell (main picture) became a millionaire after he was bought by Mumbai Indians for USD 10,00,000 (Rs 5.3 crore) on a day when he got a first-ball duck in the ODI against West Indies at Perth. the Australian is no more a lesser-known now. The Mumbai Indians will welcome an all-rounder like Maxwell, who also excels with his off-spin.

Morris mesmerised
South African speedster Chris Morris, who has played only one T20 international, went for more than 30 times his entry price with Chennai Super Kings buying him for $625,000 (Rs 3.3 crore). A pleasantly surprised Morris later told Espncricinfo: “I have never in my life seen so much money.” When asked what he’d like to do with the 5.5 million rands, he replied: . “I suppose one of the things I’d like to do is give my parents anything they could like and spoil them a little bit.” Morris is known for his game-finishing skills, something fellow South African Lance Klusener used to do so well. MS Dhoni would love to have him as a partner in the last over of a match.

Rude shock for Dan
DAN Christian, who had surprised everyone in the 2011 IPL auction after fetching a mind-boggling $900,000 (Rs 4.7 crore) from now-terminated Deccan Chargers, failed to attract any bidders in the first round of auction. The Australian all-rounder finally managed to get a team for the sixth IPL when Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him at his base price of $100,000 (Rs 53 lac) in the final round of the auction.

Two will do for KKR
IPL defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders weren’t as aggressive as other teams during the auction. They bid for four players, but only managed to win two. They were successful in snatching Sri Lanka spinner Sachitra Senanayake from Chennai Super Kings to eventually buy him for $625,000 (Rs 3.3 crore). South Africa all-rounder Ryan McLaren, who had gone unsold in the first round of auction, was KKR’s second buy for $50,000 (Rs 26 lac).
Late cut for Tyagi
Auctioneer Richard Madley announced Dirk Nannes as the next player as there wasn’t any interest shown by the teams in buying the discarded India pacer Sudeep Tyagi. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad had an after thought and Madley heard more than a whisper. He soon discovered the new franchise’s interest in the pacer and they had him for $100,000 (Rs 53 lac).

Star Aussie batsmen Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke did not go beyond their similar base prices of USD 400,000 (Rs 2.1 crore). Clarke, who was praised by the Australian media for not being too enthusiastic about the Twenty20 extravaganza although he played a few games for Pune last year, is now well and truly an IPL man.
