Gautam Gambhir would rather be somewhere else. If the Delhi Daredevils captain had a choice, he wouldn't be playing any matches at the Ferozshah Kotla.

Asked about the pitch after his side had gone down in a heap against Kings XI Punjab, Gambhir was very candid. "Given a choice, I'd rather play away games. At least its an even contest there, with batsmen and bowlers having equal opportunities.

"Twenty20 cricket is about boundaries and sixes, and here (at the Kotla) you have to put your head down and accumulate and graft. So ideally, I would like to play away games."

Gambhir pretty much reflected what Anil Kumble said after the game here, when he had termed the Kotla pitches "not suitable" for T20 cricket.

Having said that, the pitch was still good enough for 160-170 runs, batting first. "The toss was really important and we won it," Gambhir said. "But there is really no excuse for how we played. A score of 111 was never going to be enough, especially after we got 40 runs in the first four overs."

True, since losing three wickets in less than five overs wasn't the ingredient for a big score, especially since the Daredevils middle-order hasn't really contributed in the previous games.u00a0

Asked if it wasn't time for the Daredevils to play as a team, he snapped: "You are saying this because we lost a couple of games. When we were winning, none of this was coming up. Even against Kolkata Knight Riders, we reached 160. This was just one of those days."

Two run-outs, of Gambhir himself and David Warner, pretty much took the fight out of the Daredevils batting and all the Kings XI bowlers had to do was keep it straight as none of the batsmen failed to stay on the wicket for long.
