Parkophene CC clinched the 'A' division title of the Dr HD Kanga Cricket League after drawing their last league match against Fort Vijay CC at Youth's Own Union CC, Cross Maidan yesterday. Fort Vijay posted 169 for eight before declaring their innings closed with Gandhar Bhatawdekar (49) and Pankaj Jaiswal (33) being the principal scorers. Parkophene pacer Rehmani Sufiyan and spinner Rajesh Pawar, the under-19 Mumbai chief selector, claimed three and two wickets respectively. Parkophene ended the day with 31 for one to finish the tournament with 10 points. Payyade SC emerged runners-up with nine points after their win over DY Patil Sports Association in Navi Mumbai. Thanks to Harmeet Singh (3-43), pacers Royston Dias (3-26) and Rohan Raje (2-21), Payyade SC bundled out DY Patil for 131. Iqbal Abdullah slammed 50 in a losing cause. In reply, Payyade SC scored 145 losing four wickets to win on the first innings.

Ump Thakur suffers injury
Umpire Sandeep Thakur suffered a serious injury while doing duty in a 'B' division match between Apollo CC and United Cricketers at Cross Maidan. Thakur, 57, was hit on his forehead when a midwicket boundary fielder threw the ball at the end where Thakur was standing. Luckily for Thakur, there was neurosurgeon, Dr Aadil Chagla a few metres away to attend to him. The friendly doctor was representing MB Union CC against New Amrit CC in a 'D' division game. “Dr Chagla helped control the bleeding before match observer Avdhoot Gokhale and MCA physiotherapist took Thakur to Bombay Hospital. The cut needed 10 stitches,” MCA managing committee member Srikant Tigdi told mid-day. “The ball hit an area which we call the root of the nose, just on the forehead. It's an injury which will require management by a surgeon,” said Dr Chagla, who is waiting to see the scan reports.

Father Naushad Khan and his three sons Sarfaraz (who played the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016), Moin and Musheer played in the same Young Mohammedans team against Dadar Parsee Zorastrians CC at Matunga yesterday. Batting first, Young Mohammedans scored 154 with Sarfaraz top-scoring with 65.

Sarfaraz and Musheer put on 90 runs for the first wicket before left-arm spinner Musheer returned amazing figures of 5 for 8 to dismiss DPZ for 55. The hosts followed on and ended the day with 44 for 5 as veteran Naushad claimed 3 for 7 with his left-arm spin.
